Biking Denmark (continued)The first day of biking was first north out of København along the Øresund toward Helsingør where we toured the 16th century Kroneborg Castle including a path thru the lowest underground level which was guarded by Odin himself. We had our first flat tire just outside the castle gate. After lunch we headed southwest to Hellerød to tour the 18th century Frederiksborg Castle. After touring the castle we headed southwest in the late afternoon to Frederikssund where we planned to stay overnight. |

When we arrived there in the early evening, we got our first surprise, there was no hotel in Frederikssund. We were told there was a Kro (an Inn with a few rooms and a restaurant). Unfortunately, a wedding party had taken over the entire place. They told us to try a campground nearby where they had a couple of cabins to rent. There was nothing available. The lady at the office told us we could however put up our tent. We had no tent, the lady said we could put our sleeping bags in a tent she had setup for the weekend. You can imagine the look on the lady’s face when we told her we had no sleeping bags. Thank goodness she recovered and sent her son to her home in town to get a couple bags we could use. About 10 that evening we found a kind of food truck where we got something to eat and then slept in the borrowed tent and sleeping bags. |
